Come Sail Away

Thank you Kassidy! She met the general manager of On Deck which is a sailing company down here and got us the hook up to go sailing! It was so much fun. There were two boats that went out at the same time, ours which had me, Kassidy and the 2 crew members Tom and Wes, and another boat that had 2 crew members and 3 guys on board. After sailing around for a while we were able to race and we were ruled the winners because the other boat broke the rules. It was fun to learn the different terms and to help take the sails up and down and switch them from side to side. The only sad part is we didn't get very many action shots of us helping with the sales, but we got a lot of other good pictures so that was fun! All in all it was an awesome experience and I would love to go sailing again!

Pics from the BVI

I posted a little while ago about going to the British Virgin Islands so here are some pictures from that day! It was such a great experience. We were on a charter tour that took us to The Baths at Virgin Gorda first, then we went to Marina Cay which is a little island off of Tortola (this is where we were had our pictures taken in that photo booth!) where we had lunch, then we went snorkeling just off of Tortola and after that headed over to Jost Van Dyke. It was such a great way to visit all of the items and not have to worry about anything. They gave us breakfast on board plus tons of snacks and it was an open bar (which obviously for us was the option of juice, water or soda!). The funniest part about that was when we told the girl we didn't drink her reaction was, "You three must be the only people on St. Thomas that don't drink!" ha ha funny but kind of true! All around though it was so much fun! Thanks for going with me Kassidy and Brynne!

Parasailing!

At the begining of November Kassidy and I had the chance to go parasailing! It was one of the things that I really wanted to do while living down here. If you have never gone, I highly recommend it! It was amazing! We had 2 of the nicest guys for our crew, and since we were the only appointment they had that day we had a lot of fun. They took us up in the air for around 30 minutes (usually you get maybe 10 minutes) then let me and Kassidy take turns driving the boat! It was really fun and I wish there was enough time left to do it again! Sorry this took so long for me to post these!

I was in England!

Ok well I was on English territory! On Thursday I was able to go to the British Virgin Islands with Kassidy and Brynne. While on one of the islands they have a telephone booth with a webcam set up to take a picture every 15 seconds. Click on the link here and hopefully it will take you to the archive. Search under 11-19-09 at 11:42 a.m. and you will see our pictures! Have a wonderful day!

A little taste of life...

I figured it was time to post some new pictures from St. Thomas. Nothing special just a few things that we have done. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Kassidy and I posing for prom...ha ha or just taking a funny picture before going out one night.

This huge spider was outside of our front door! Kassidy and Brynne put him in a bucket then ran him over with the car 3 times to kill him and he was still twitching after that! Then a week later there was another huge spider in the same spot! Gross! I can't wait to come home where all of the bugs are dead for the winter!

Our friend Connor came to visit us for a few days! He is doing the same internship over in Puerto Rico but he had a few days off in a row so he flew over! WE LOVE CONNOR!!!!

Meagan and I getting ready to go out one night. Just a funny picture because I think these type of pictures are way cheesy!

The sign by the entrance to the church. The branch members are so great here. It is awesome to be a part of this wonderful church!

Its A Small World After All...

Living down here in St. Thomas I often miss different things about the states...especially Utah! So whenever I ask people for I.D. I often hope that they are from Utah so I can get even a little taste of home. It is so great when I can say I am from Richfield and people actually know where that is! lol! Yesterday was the craziest of these experiences though. The girls at Cariloha (a partner store with Del Sol that the other 3 interns down here work at) were helping people and Meagan asked for I.D. The customer was from Utah so they all started talking and Kassidy mentioned she is from Richfield. The customer then asks her if she knows Grant and Louise Stubbs! Of course she tells them yes and mentions that I work right next door. When they come next door I immediately recognized them, it was my mothers cousin Rob and his wife from Kaysville! It was so great to see someone that I actually know and talk with them! My store was really busy when they were in so we didn't get to talk long but I gave them each a hug and Rob took a picture of me and sent it to my mom's phone! ha ha! Like the song says, "Its A Small World After All...!"

I believe in...

I am the type of person who always has a song or a quote to fit my situation in life. I have always believed that we can find strength to go on from so many different sources. I also believe that sometimes when someone else has already said the perfect words for how you feel. Today I have been thinking that these two quotes are how I feel. I have always loved the one by Audrey Hepburn (it's by Audrey of course I have!) but I found this other one today and I love it as well. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend! I promise to do another update soon!

It's A Dead Man's Party...

Hello everyone! If you know me at all you know how much I love and adore holidays, especially Halloween!!! I have always loved the option of being someone else, even if it is just for the night! This year was so much fun! I dressed up as Alice in Wonderland (yes I was that 2 years ago and no I don't have blonde hair but oh well!) and went out on the town with my roommates. But our adventures for the night started the moment we walked out of the house. Our house has bars on every window and door (sometimes I feel like we are on house arrest or something!) and whenever we leave we just padlock the bars so no one can get in. Well we all walk out the door and lock the pad lock then get to the car and stand there. I looked at everyone and said, "Who has the keys?" No one had grabbed them off the counter!!! Well we couldn't pick the lock, and our landlord is out of town so we couldn't just grab the spare from her so we had to figure out another way in. Brynne helped Meagan and Kassidy up onto our balcony (the spot closet to the ground is about 7 or 8 feet high), they then slid a nail file inbetween our slidding doors to lift the lock and get us in the house! ha ha it was hillarious!
Once we got underway we went out to the Red Hook area of the island and chilled there. We met up with our Manager Laura at Fat Boys and took some pictures. Then when we were leaving another "fun" thing happened. Fat Boys is upstairs and is known for having really, really slick stairs and to make things worse they were wet! Well being the clutz that I am my one foot slipped out from under me and I practically did the splits on the stairs! Luckily I wasn't hurt at all and got an awesome bruise on my arm from this!
After Fat Boys we went over to Caribbean Saloon and listened to a local band called Bad Men play. They were really good and I can't wait for them to play again so we can go listen. We met up with the coasties there but left because it was way crowded! From there we went over to Duffy's and danced the night away! Of course we had to take some pictures with the "Missionary's" (I inspired their costumes, ha ha love it)! Anthony, Joss and Cory are so funny and we had a great time hanging out with them.

All in all Halloween was a fabulous time! I am sad I wasn't at home to see all of my nieces and nephews cute costumes but hopefully their moms will put pictures up soon so I can see! Hope everyone else had a great night as well!

Time of the season...

I just realized that tomorrow it will be 2 full months since I have been here in St. Thomas! My internship is almost officially half-way complete! In so many ways I am so excited about this, but there are a few things that I now realize I really need to do before I go! For example:

  • Para sailing-This looks like so much fun and what better place to do it?

  • The BVI- So many things I want to do over there...I really need to get on that!

  • Puerto Rico-Our friend Connor came and visited us from Puerto Rico...now we need to go see him! (Side note: We met him at training, he is on an internship with Del Sol in Puerto Rico)

  • Get Scuba Certified-Something I really want to do and it is so much cheaper down here...hopefully I can make this happen!

Just a few things, but still I need to work on them! Hopefully by making a list I will finally do some of them! I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful fall weather back home and getting ready for Halloween! I love this time of year so I would greatly appreciate any pictures people have that they would send me!

More Little Letters

Dear General Conference: You were amazing! It was exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you to all of the inspired leaders of the church for giving such wonderful talks.

Dear Roommates: I love you! You are wonderful girls! I am sorry when I act like a brat, I swear it is nothing personal to you!

Dear girls at work: I would really appreciate it if you would all stop fighting with each other over sales in front of customers! So unprofessional! Also please work on showing up on time, not being on your cell phone constantly, and helping out around the store more, I am not the only person who knows how to fold a t-shirt!

Dear former managers: For all those times I gave you some major attitude (lets face it I am the queen of attitude!) I am sorry. I now know how annoying it is when employees wont do what you ask them to do! Sorry about that!

Dear Postal Service: My mom sent me a package over a week ago and it still has not arrived! I am not so happy about this! Please have it get here soon, or send it back to her so that I know it is not lost in the mail! I would cry if it becomes lost!

Dear St. Thomas: You have been wonderful to me so far, but really lets work on the price of food over here ok? Also lets not run out of water at our house again. I know I didn't have to pay to have it filled up but really that was just annoying!

Dear whoever is reading this: Obviously I am close to you or you wouldn't have this website. I love you and hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather that I am missing down here!

Livin it up!

I am having a blast down here! Just a few random photos of things I have done. Hope you all are enjoying the beautiful fall back in the States!

Missing...

So St. Thomas is fun, and I am really starting to love it here but there are some things that I am missing that I am so sad about!

  • Tyler had his 1st birthday yesterday...I love this little boy so much and miss his big slobbery kisses! Amanda said he is walking all over now...how fast things change!
  • Gwen turns 6 tomorrow! She is so dang cute, funny, smart, hilarious, etc...I wish I could be there to celebrate and attend the birthday party!
  • Fall...It is summer here all year long which is nice in some ways, but I want the fall colors of the mountains right now!
  • My family...I miss seeing everyone whenever I wanted to!
  • Good food for a reasonable price...food over here is so expensive!

These are just a few things I am missing at the moment! But really I love it here and I am having a good time! I will try to post more pictures soon!

St. Thomas Pics!

Hopefully this will work because Facebook was not letting me upload pictures! Here are a few pictures of the island that I am living on for the next 4 months!

The view from our balcony.

The view at night, the mist is the rain...you can

kinda tell, I thought it was cool.

A view Kassidy and I found from the top of the island.

You can see the 3 houses in the middle, one yellow 2 white, ours is the bottom one that is half hidden!

This ship has a pirate flag on it and kinda looks like a pirate ship! I had to post it for Dylan and Braxton!

Little Letters

Dear Taza @ The Rockstar Diaries: You inspired me to do these little letters from your own little letters! Thanks for making a very fun and exciting blog to read daily that makes me feel inspired to do more!

Dear Weather: Kassidy was going to teach me how to kayak today. Then you decided to do a 180 a half hour before we were to go. Please make this up to me before I leave for St. Thomas where I will need to know how to kayak.

Dear Del Sole: Thank you for selecting me for an internship. I can't wait to start. But why is your information packet taking so long to get here?

Dear Maurices: I have loved working for you and will miss you and my discount terribly when I leave.

And finally Dear Mom and Dad: I love you, but stop leaving me so often at night. I know I am a big girl, but I get scared in the house all by myself and the couch is no fun to sleep on!

Love to you all, Laurie

Random happenings in July

Well other then the 4th we did have a few fun adventures.
The first was that Collin was blessed on July 5th. It is so
nice to have so many family members who hold the priesthood
and are worthy to use that blessing. A lot of family members were
able to be there since it was the holiday weekend so it was fun to
share that with them. We didn't get a picture of
him in his outfit but this is one at the lunch after, isn't he so cute!

I finally finished up with school for the semester!
Whoever had the idea of summer school should be hurt...
Whoever had the idea of online classes should be hurt...
and Whoever thought that we should combine the two should be hurt!
I have never been a big school girl, so why I decided to take so many classes in the summer I am still not sure about! Not only that, but I am a huge procrastinator. I only do things right before they are due, so when my online class said everything was due on 7-27 by 11:59 p.m. I figured I was fine to wait a little while. It only showed 4 assignments and 4 test so I thought I would be fine. I was so wrong! One of those assignments was a general assignment that had 15 assignments in one! I started the class a week before it was due, and I finished at 11:55 p.m. on 7-27. I am pretty sure that I will never do an online class again!
Also this month I decided I would apply for an internship with Kassidy.
It was very last minute and so when I called I was lucky to getan interview on the very last day they were holding 1st interviews. For the second interview Kassidy and I had to go up together, and on the way home we decided we would just have fun and do whatever we wanted. It was one of the best trips I have ever had to Salt Lake!
First we decided to go over to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house.
I had never been inside of a temple, except for the baptisimal font, and it was so BEAUTIFUL!!!
I really was so happy that we went, because it is something that I don't know if I will be able to go to another open house for years!

We also decided that we would stop at the lavender fields. I had always wanted to stop and so had Kassidy so we decided why not! It was just before sunset when we got there and the lighting was perfect! We had so much fun running, and jumping throughout the field and taking tons of pictures to go with it. After we were done there we decided to drive over to the lake right by it and walk around there as well. It was so fun to just relax and take the side roads. It also really made me want to do a road trip sometime. Having all the time to just stop and view anything you want sounds like so much fun!

Well back to the internship! After the 2nd interview they told us we would know in about 2 weeks if we had got it or not. And boy did they keep us waiting forever!!! But when they finally did call we found out....WE GOT IT!!!! We are being sent to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands! We have a week of training in Salt Lake starting on 8-17, then we fly out on 8-22 and will be there until the begining of January. I can't believe that something I was so last minute about turned out to be such a great opportunity! And the fact that I get to go with my best friend is amazing! Once I get over there I promise I will try to keep the blog updated on all of our adventures!

4th of July

So obviously I am very behind on my blog!
Today I just plan on doing a catch up on the month of July.

To start things out I will do a run down of the 4th.
Anyone who has been to Richfield for the 4th knows
that it is a big deal here! I love the small
town celebration and enjoy it every single year!
The morning started with the whole family going down to the parade.
The kids love all the candy that is thrown,
and it is always fun to just sit back and watch the parade go by.

After the parade I headed down to the park with Kassidy for a bit, then
headed over to North Sevier for the family reunion. This year
we all got together over at the Maple Grove Campground.
It is always fun to get caught up with everyone and see what
they are all up to in their lifes. While their we decided it was time
to take a new picture of the single girl cousins. I love these girls
and I am so happy that we could get caught up.

That night the family went down to the football field to enjoy
the Richfield city fireworks. I think it is the best place to
watch the show each year because there is plenty of room for
the kids to run around and play while waiting for everything
to start. One of the funniest parts to the night was Travis's wife Kara.
Kara is in law school and so obviously she obeys the laws.
Watching her observations to all of the illegal fireworks that
go off in Richfield was hillarious. She kept saying things like,
"I can't believe all of these. This is so illegal. Where are the police?"
ha ha it was so funny!
After the city fireworks Kassidy and I played with firecrackers at
her house. I love sitting on her bridge throwing them into the water.
It was such a fun day! I love the 4th of July!

Will school ever end?

The dirt bag is gone...

I am so happy that Jillian finally stopped being
fooled by this moron and let him go!
Really everyone else knew he was in it for his
music, why didn't she get this?
And his little speech in the car after the rose ceremony...
Can you say Douche Bag?
It was about time Jill...Now can I have one of
the final three boys for myself?

The Mormon Miracle

So this last week I was able to attend one of my favorite
events during the summer,
The Mormon Miracle Pagent!!!
I was able to go up two different nights and it was such a blast!
It really is such a great way to remember the history
or the church and to be so thankful for what the pioneers did for us.
If you have never gone, plan on attending next year because
it is completely worth it!

Big Spender

Watched this for the first time last night...
I LOVED IT!!!
If you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend it!
Should I be a little worried if there were parts
in the movie that reminded me of myself?
lol
I think it is time for a shopping spree....;)
